How Does Summer Affect Your Skin?
In the summer when the weather gets warmer your skins sebaceous glands start to produce excess sebum (natural oil). This oil usually gets stuck on the surface of the skin which can lead to the skin feeling more sticky, greasy and eventually having your pores blocked.
For many people, acne breakouts are the most common problem in the summer. If you have oily skin you might be more prone to acne since the bacteria and excess oil in your skin will mix with the sweat, causing clogged pores.
Other common skin issues during summer are usually itchy skin, sunburnt skin and rashes due to the sun.

- Wear sunscreen
The sun’s UV rays cases premature ageing, fine lines, age spots and wrinkles in the skin. A good sunscreen with at least SPF30 is crucial for keeping your skin protected and helping it maintain its structure. If you go swimming, make sure to use a waterproof SPF or apply SPF multiple times in the day. - Moisturize
Aim for applying a moisturiser directly after your bath. A moisturizer prevents your skin from getting dry and peeling off in the summer heat. Go for a moisturiser with a cooling effect and look for ingredients such as vitamins A and C, since they help restore the skin.
- Yes watermelon is good for your skin (and body)!
Aim to drink 2 litres of water per day during the summer. Watermelons, coconut water and fresh juices are all excellent options to stay hydrated. Drinking water helps flush the toxins from your body.
